You know there is a major shift in fashion when someone like Victoria Beckham comes out and says she can’t handle heels anymore. More specifically, Mrs Beckham said “I think people saw the real me when I came out in a pair of men’s trousers, a roll-neck, and trainers. I just can’t do heels anymore. At least not when I’m working. I travel a lot”. She went on to talk about how her uniform has changed recently, adding, “Clothes have to be simple and comfortable.”
Yes, this is THE Victoria Beckham who once famously said she “can’t concentrate wearing flats” and who was pictured wearing six inch heels on her treadmill work station.
Beckham was advised by her doctor to ditch the heels five years ago or risk permanent damage to her feet and it seems she’s finally decided to take his medical opinion on board, if her recent outfits are anything to go by. When Victoria Beckham stepped out to accept her much-deserved applause for her AW16 New York Fashion Week show (first picture, below), she was wearing an oversized cream sweater, crop trousers and sneakers. An outfit we are not used to seeing Victoria in at her fashion shows.
I think as we age, Victoria is 41, we look for more comfortable and practical footwear. Especially, if you are running around after kids or you have a frantic job that entails a lot of walking around.
Of course, Victoria Beckham isn’t the only celebrity ditching the heels for more comfortable shoes. Gigi Hadid, Kendall Jenner, Emma Stone, Rosie Huntington-Whiteley, Rihanna, Gwyneth Paltrow, Jessica Alba, Beyonce and Gwen Stephani, are just a few celebrities who also love their comfortable kicks.
As you can see from the picture above, the chosen brand of celebrities is Adidas, and in particular, the Adidas Superstars or Adidas Stan Smith collections. I must admit I am a huge fan of Adidas Superstars and have been wearing them for quite a few years now (I have the same pair as Emma Stone in the picture above and love them!).
Below we have shared the most popular Adidas casual shoes from their range:
Of course, if Adidas shoes aren’t your thing. We have found these fantastic and stylish kicks for you (I might be slightly in love with the Guess sneakers. Wow!):
What do you think of the sneaker and casual trend?
