With Summer almost behind us, thoughts are turning to the new season ahead – and new autumn look and colour trends for hair. If you’re not sure how to navigate these sometimes tricky waters, celebrity stylist Dario Cotroneo, owner of Dario Salon Darlinghurst, has shared his top tips for hair trends for the cooler months below:

Marsala, baby

The Pantone Colour Institute named Marsala as the colour of the year for 2015 and I think it’s really going to have a ‘hair’ moment in the cooler months. Described as “a naturally robust and earthy wine red,” by Leatrice Eiseman of Pantone, I think this colour is perfect for a brunette that has been thinking about going red for the forthcoming season.

The long lob

A lot of women have been coming in for lobs over the summer and I think the cooler months will see a move toward growing this out.  Celebrities such as Kim Kardashian and Jessica Alba have led the pack in showcasing how hair, that falls just below the collarbone, is both stylish and sexy. Ask your stylist to cut some long invisible layers around the jawline if you want to mix it up.

The textured bob

Winter hairstyles for 2015 are all about texture and for those of you with hair on the shorter side, it might be time to say goodbye to your sleek n’ straight bob. Short defined waves will update your look for the new season and are perfect for framing the face. Use a sea salt spray or mousse to give your locks a boost.

Bright, buttery blonde

Lighter and platinum blondes, who are looking for something a little more subdued for Autumn, should opt for a bright, buttery blonde. Not only does this colour require slightly less maintenance than a platinum tone, it’s been massive overseas for the cooler months – so you’ll be bang on trend. Make sure you ask your colourist for take-home products and treatments that will help maintain your new shade.
