The Best Ways to Smarten Up Your Garden for Summer
Summer is the perfect time to get outside. You might be hosting family barbecues, outdoor parties or just like eating al fresco. So now that the weather is picking up, it is the perfect time to get outside and smarten up your garden. You have heard of getting yourself summer-ready, so how about your outside space too? It will be so much easier to relax and enjoy being outside if you aren’t thinking of all of the jobs that need to be done out there.
The colder months can play a big part in damaging furniture or even your shrubbery. The actual outside of your home will have taken a battering too. So one of the first things to do is to get a pressure washer. If you have a friend with one that you can borrow, then even better. They are easily available to hire, though. A pressure washer works wonders to give the outside of your home a much needed clean. It will get rid of any mould or moss quickly. You can use it on windows too, as well as patios and paving. It can bring up all of the dirt and will leave the tiles or driveway looking like new. Everyone needs to use a pressure washer after winter!
It is a good idea to then move onto giving the space and general tidy up and clean. Weeding the flowerbeds is important, as weeds just grow and grow in summer. So spend a few hours getting rid of all you can. Then you are on top of it all and can just pick them as they grow. You could also use a weedkiller on them, to stop them growing back. If you grow fruits or vegetables in your garden, then this might not be the best option, though. It can kill the plants off, as well as spray them with toxins. It is all good for getting rid of weeds, though.
Next, it is a good idea to look at the lawn. Are any weeds growing on there too? If so, try to deal with it as soon as possible. Mowing the lawn is a good idea, to keep on top of the growing grass. A trimmer is a good idea to trim the edges, as well as using for pruning trees and bushes.
When you are having a bit of a general tidy-up, think about what might need replacing. Is your garden fencing looking a little tired or worn? Could a few panels do with being replaced, or do they just need a new coat of paint or varnish? Or you could consider upgrading to decorative privacy panels. That will surely add life to your garden that might be of less maintenance in the future. Then think about the furniture that you have outside. Does any of that need cleaning or to be replaced? If it is just a case of getting rid of some mould, the pressure washer will help with that too. If you need any garden furniture, then look for the type that is durable and will last outside. If the chairs come with seat cushions, make sure that they are machine washable and detachable. You don’t want to get them waterlogged from any rain and not be able to clean them. Rattan furniture is a good option as it is comfortable but looks so stylish too. There is no need for seat cushions with it either.
If you are shopping around for a few extra bits, it is a good idea to look for some accessories. Have you got plenty of plates, cups, and bowls that can be used outside? How about a barbecue? Now is the time when a lot of these things are on sale, so it is the perfect time to buy. Think about other things that you might like too. A tall heating lamp is often useful as the summer evenings turn cool, as well as providing a light source. You could think about stringing up some fairy lights along the fencing, or around a wall. You can get solar-powered spotlights that can be dotted along the flowerbeds. They will charge up all day in the lovely summer sun. Then they will provide pretty lighting when the evenings get dark. Perfect for a romantic dinner outside.
Think about getting some large planters to dot around the patio area if you have one. Window boxes and hanging baskets are also great things to get ready for the summer.
