The boyfriend style has been around in different variances since the late 80s/early 90s and it doesn’t look like it is going away anytime soon.
Personally, this is my signature look… casual jeans, tee and blazer or long line cardi with a scarf. Ankle boots, loafers or ballets to finish the outfit off.
It really is a casual, stylish timeless look.
So how can you make this look work for you? Tres easy!
The boyfriend blazer:
This versatile piece can be worn with so many items. With jeans, over skirts and dresses, over white shirts or tees, black fitted pants, leggings/jeggings (just make sure you wear a tunic or long shirt under the jacket, if wearing leggings! Leggings are not pants!).My picks:
The boyfriend jeans:
Boyfriend jeans have never gone out of favour, so you can wear your worn out jeans to your hearts content. Comfortable yet stylish, you can never look bad in boyfriend jeans. Just add some cute flats, ankle boots or heels, fold up the hem of the jeans and you are good to go.
If you want a pair you could wear from day to night, the Sportscraft jeans would take you into night time as they are a darker denim without any rips or holes. Meaning, you would be safe to walk into any restaurant or bar without strange looks or disobeying their dress code.
Pop one of the black boyfriend blazers above over the top of either of these gorgeous tops to keep out the winter chill. Team with a stunning pair of heels (Personally, I am lusting after the Portmans Louise Bar Trim Pump ($59.95) right). Add a statement necklace to the lace top to add some interest.
I would add a basic necklace and earrings to the embellished tank, you don’t want to be too OTT (over the top) with bling.
Boyfriend or oversized knits:
There is nothing better than a big oversized knit in winter to make you feel warm and secure. It is like a warm hug enveloping your top half. Cable knits and striped knits are huge this season and just about every store will be carrying some form of oversized knit wear. If you are on a limited budget Boo hoo (www.boohoo.com.au) and Supre have really nice oversized knits. I bought a cream and navy stripe knit from Supre and love it! It was only $35!
Country Road have always had gorgeous knits and this season is no exception. I bought a grey cable knit jumper from Country Road twelve years ago and it still looks great. Just goes to show if you invest wisely in classic styled pieces that they will last the distance. Witchery has a gorgeous black cable knit jumper in their range too.
What is your favourite look this season? I think this has to be mine.
