Magic medicine: nurofen for kids

One of the worst things about being a parent is seeing our children in pain and suffering. It usually starts when bub starts teething, has their first cold or has a temperature.

When my eldest was little, there wasn’t a lot of pain relief products on the market, unfortunately. Paracetamol was the only medicine you could buy to relieve little ones pain. Of course, the paracetemol only lasted an hour or so and you couldn’t give the child more for 4 hours after the initial dose. So you were left with a very distressed child in pain.

My eldest was so slow at getting teeth, one at a time and they took their time coming out. The poor child was in so much pain, I spent many nights walking him around the house trying to calm him down. We also tried the million and one tricks like a frozen facewasher to suck on, teething rings and teething gel. Nothing seemed to work and we just had to deal with it until the teeth had come through.

Now of course there are many more products on the market, but with my 2nd and 3rd sons I swear by Nurofen for children and have done so for over 10 years. Nurofen provides relief for 6-8 hours, which means less doses and less fighting of get the child to take it! Not to mention the amazing dispenser. Just suck up the recommended dose up into the dispenser, pop it in the child’s mouth towards the back of their tongue, push the nurofen out and it goes down their throat. Job done.

We all know parenting can be hard and don’t know all of the answers, so Nurofen have released a practical parenting book which gives helpful hints to parenting, called “Unravelling the magic of discovery”. The book gives practical advice and detailed information for all stages of your child’s development.

  1. The hardest thing is when your children get sick and you just want to make them better straight away i found i feel so helpless can only be there for them when they need you

  2. consistency – it’s really hard in the heat of the moment to remember that!

  3. Trying not to over react! Controlling tempers, laughter and worry!

  4. Following through on punishments
