Red carpet fashion finds

SAG awards

The entertainment industry awards season is underway and don’t we love viewing the gorgeous red carpet fashion from the most exclusive designers in the world on our favourite celebrities?

The clothes worn to award events such as the Oscars and the Golden Globes consistently receive intense worldwide media scrutiny, making their red carpets an international product placement area of great importance to fashion designers.

So much work goes on behind the scenes to make the beautiful designer dresses; some can take 6 months or more to make and are worth thousands of dollars.

Here are some celebrity dresses from recent award ceremonies with similar looks we have created from pieces available at David Jones:

Supermodel Rosie Huntington-Whiteley looked sensational at the Golden Globes in a black Yves Saint Laurent dress featuring a modest thigh high split and 90s inspired halter neck cut along with an oversized leather waist belt.

Here we have the gorgeous Camilla and Marc Correlation Backless dress, which has a sophisticated approach to the season’s sheer trend, the Correlation Backless Dress features a high neckline, pleated bodice and stunning leg veil. Matched with the stunning Lipstik Benny High Heel T-bar Sandal With Gold Hardware.  Perfect for dinner and black tie events.

Homeland star Claire Daines is a constant on the Best Dressed on the Red Carpet list (seen below in Armani Prive at the 2010 Emmy Awards), sequins and sequined gowns have made a “comeback” of sorts. These gowns have simple figure-hugging silhouettes and little detail–other than the fabulously hand-beaded sequins, of course.

We love this stunning Rachel Gilbert Piper strapless sequin gown. Saturated with shimmering silver and gold sequins, Rachel Gilbert’s Poper Gown will make an elegant impression at your next formal event. The boned internal bodice provides support and allows you to go bra-free. This stunning dress requires beautiful heels and you cannot go past a pair of Jimmy Choo’s for pure elegance. Below are the Jimmy Choo Mocha Glitter Fabric Dorsay Sandal. Featuring a mirrored heel and a glitter sprayed front, this patent leather pair from Jimmy Choo are sure to make an impression after dark.

Claire Danes sequin dress

Last years Screen Actors Guild awards (SAG) showcased a love of navy on the red carpet. Jennifer Lawrence’s Christian Dior Haute Couture, so elegant in it’s simplicity, was one of the best examples.

Here we have chosen the grecian style Mr K Long Chiffon dress  with Satin Underbust Pleating. Basic elegance and style never goes out of date and we are sure you will wear this dress over and over again. To give the simplicity of the dress some attention we added statement accessories with a pop of colour. We love these Diavolina Jasper T-bar High Heel Sandal With Gold Heel (also available in Black) matched with the Gregory Ladner Amelie Glomesh clutch.

As we mentioned before, Claire Danes can do no wrong on the red carpet and looked amazing in this red halter neck dress by Versace.

The Mr K Chiffon Halter Dress will turn heads at your next special occasion especially when teamed with the Tony Bianco Asara High Heel Sandal With Chain On Ankle Strap.

  1. I love watching the red carpet – love it. And that Chanel (black) manicure – drools x

  2. What great prizes wow $50.00 would be spent on shoes if I was lucky enough to win thanks

  3. I’d love to step out onto a red carpet in Claire Danes’ red dress by Versace!

  4. I Loved Sofia Vegara’s Golden globes black dress. something like that for sure.

  5. What would I wear on the red carpet? Body control underwear, for a start! Then basically anything from Cate Blanchett’s wardrobe would make me very happy.

  6. My favorite actress is Nicole Kidman, so elegant and classy and looks FAB in anything she wears. Also a very talented actress. My favourite look would have to be Claire Danes Red Halter Neck Dress, so stylish and gorgeous and would definately turn heads on the catwalk, making a huge fashion statement. After all there is a song made about :”Lady in Red”. Love watching the Red Carpet and getting new ideas, inspirations on fashion and learning what looks good.:)

  7. All I know is that it would be black and flattering and totally glam! I’ll leave the rest up to my (imaginary) stylist 🙂

  8. Claire Daines black dress. It is so stylish.

  9. I love the black dress! Simple yet elegant !

  10. My favourite actress at the moment would have to be Jennifer Lawrence, but all I remember about her when I see pictures of her in that gorgeous strapless sparkly black gown is her talking about her ‘armpit vagina’! She says the wackiest things!

  11. If I were to go to a red carpet event, I would definitely draw my inspiration from Cate Blanchett, because she always looks perfect and radiant, especially in the black lace gown she wore to the 2014 Golden Globes.

  12. Mr K Chiffon Halter Dress as it suits my height and body shape!

  13. The best dress that my money could buy that also compliments my body even with the bumps.
With heels not too high, that are comfortable and pleasant. Then to top it all off with some of
    Sue Sensi designer jewellery.

  14. I think it’s every girls dream to look like some of the people on the red carpet. We definitely wish that we could own dresses and shoes like them as well.

  15. would to win this awesome gift as I could buy mum something really nice for her upcoming birthday

  16. $50 for makeup and such 🙂

  17. I would wear something like what Claire Danes wear – Mr K Chiffon Halter Dress.
I’m far from being slim like her but I find dress this style is more forgiving and still looks good on curvy women.

  18. I’d wear anything by Vera Wang, her designs are breath taking.

  19. The blue silk dress would look stunning on me. Red heads look great in dark midnight blue!

  20. That Mr K Long Chiffon dress is so beautiful! Definately my choice for an elegant affair, although I have to admit I quite like it in the peach!

  21. I would wear fitted slacks and a silky blouse that showed off my figure, killer heels for a bit of height and some bling on my fingers, arms and neck to make me sparkle and shine.

  22. I’d wear a pair of killer heels – assuming I can still walk in heels after all this time as a SAHM!

  23. I’ve always fantasised about attending the Oscars wearing a vintage gown similar to Jennifer Lopez. Now to just find my date…

  24. I’m really not sure, I’d better try everything in DJ’s on first … including shoes! let me try them all 🙂

  25. I absolutely adore Claire Danes dress. It could look tacky on some but she really wears it well!

  26. The last time I walked a red carpet it was for a kids movie event and I was wearing skinny jeans.

Should I have the opportunity to walk a legitimate awards show red carpet, I would love to channel Sharon Stone and wear a ball skirt with a shirt. Love a fashion twist!

  27. Adore the Rose huntington-whiteley dress. The timeless glamour is a hit

  28. I would love to wear Claire”s sexy red number, and all the boys will be passing me their numbers!

  29. Rachel Gilbert Piper strapless sequin gown has such style and class. A beautiful gown
