Things To Refresh During Your Spring DIY

So spring is just around the corner. This is the time of the year for new beginnings, cleaning the house up, and generally refreshing whatever you can. Although spring cleaning is fairly standard, a lot of people neglect to do some essential repair work while they’re at it. If you want to give your home a good once-over, there are certain things you might need to refresh.

You should start with the outside of your home. If you’ve been cooped up all winter, then you may have forgotten what the outside even looks like! Even in the hotter times of the year, it’s easy to neglect the outside of our homes. If you ignore certain issues for too long though, those small problems can quickly develop into big problems! Do a thorough round of your whole house, paying attention to the brickwork and roof. If your gutters are overflowing, then get up there on a ladder and see if there’s anything blocking them. Cracked tiles are an especially worrying thing to look out for. If these aren’t treated and sealed as soon as possible, you could have some seriously costly damage on your hands.

If it’s practical and affordable, you could treat your lounge to a new suite. This is something many of us put off replacing for a long time. If it’s been a few years, then why not? There’s a huge selection of lounge furniture out there. With a more thought-out decision, you could have a suite which fits so much better with the tone of your home. If a completely new suite is out of the question, and you want to refresh the furniture you have, then don’t worry! Simply remove the cushions, give them a good pat, and go over the entire sofa with a vacuum cleaner. Do another once-over for spot cleaning. If you’ve spent the winter watching box sets, then there’s going to be a few stains in the fabric! Here’s a decent guide to getting them out of upholstery.

Next up, your garden. It’s been a while since you’ve looked at this area hasn’t it? From your garden fence to the turf itself, do whatever you can to give your green patch a nice tidy-up. When summer rolls around, you’ll be glad you did the work now! If you have a deck or patio, and you’ve noticed grime building up in the cracks, it might be worth hiring in a pressure-washing service. Once you’ve done all the big jobs, you have a little creative license. Buy a few pre-planted flowers and plants that you like and scatter them around in a nice layout. When you’re all done, your garden will look like a little piece of heaven!

After you deal with these areas of your home, you’ll feel much more inclined to relax again. Like anything, the sooner you get started the sooner you’ll be done. If you’re squeezed for time, divide all your DIY jobs into little, manageable bites. I know this always helps my motivation!
