We may not like oily skin or oil leaks in our car for that matter! But there are so many different oils out there that are true superstars. Let’s take a look at a few, and see what benefits you can get out of them, health, food, and beauty wise.

Food

Why do we need oil for cooking certain foods? Well, it reaches a much higher temperature that water can when heated. And having a higher heat environment means things cook much quicker. There is wide selections of cooking oil that you can choose from, and all can serve different purposes. Some oils have any flavor removed from them so that they do not alter the taste of the foods you are cooking. Whereas others, such as Virgin olive oil, have a distinct flavor that adds an extra taste to your meal. Extra virgin olive oil is also one of the healthier oils for cooking with, and it also has amazing benefits for your skin too. It contains Vitamins A, E, D and K and is a big part of the Mediterranean diet. And the Mediterranean diet has proved to be one of the healthiest in the world. You can also make scrumptious vinaigrette’s and dressings for salads, by using oils. To make a classic vinaigrette, use three parts all and one part white wine vinegar and then mix in a jar with seasoning. Rapeseed oil is a good choice to use when making such dressings. And, if you are vegan, oil makes a good substitute for butter in delicious cake recipes.

Beauty

So we now know about some of the ways we can use oils in cooking, but how about what they can do for our beauty regime? Well, coconut oil happens to be a superior multi-tasking beauty product. It can be used warmed up as a deep conditioner for your hair. It also makes a beautiful body lotion when warmed up to liquid form, and then cooled down. Oil pulling works well with coconut oil as it contains anti-bacterial and anti-fungal properties. And for many people, it has also upped the whiteness of their teeth a notch or two.  Oh, and it also removes makeup too! If you have cracking cuticles, use coconut oil to soften them, and if you’re mom-to-be keep a jar handy to rub on those impending stretch marks. And one last one, rubbing coconut oil under your arms acts as a great natural deodorant.

Health

For your health, not only is it great to eat a tablespoon of coconut oil a day, but it’s also a good idea to include avocado oil in your diet. Avocado oil contains oleic acid which has been known to reduce the risk of some cancers, speed up cell regeneration, heal wounds and reduce inflammation. It also contains a high concentration of beta-sitosterol. This helps transform unhealthy fats in our body into healthier ones. And lastly avocado oil is jam-packed with chlorophyll which helps to remove mercury and lead from our liver, brain, and kidneys. So it’s fantastic oil for detoxifying.
