WSS Home: Winter Decor Inspiration

Winter is the perfect time to add some texture and warmth to your home with simple updates to your living areas and bedrooms.

The usual colour tone for autumn and winter is dark and cosy but this year we are seeing a lot of earth tones of terracotta, burnt oranges, browns, rust,  and blues and greens. While dark, matte colours give off a warm vibe that makes you want to sit in front of the fire all day, light colours brighten up the home and offer an inviting and sophisticated look. While the weather is dark and dreary outside, we don’t want the inside looking a similar way, do we?

This year grey has become the new colour for winter and autumn. The neutrality of grey mixes in with any style. Grey tones also create an atmospheric style that is incredibly homely plus, as with most neutral colours, it doesn’t date. Grey is a great base colour to build upon especially when buying furniture or painting walls. A grey lounge suite or sofa will look amazing for many years to come, as will grey walls. Grey walls with white or off-white trim will always look classic and it is one of the most sought-after looks at the moment.

A lot of people believe you can’t add warmth to your home using neutral and pastel colours but this is false.  Beautiful textures and prints can bring an array of warmth and interest to any home and it doesn’t need to cost a lot to transform your home for the colder months. Let’s face it, we get sick of the same look of our interiors day after day but simple updates to throws, cushions, rugs, wall art, homewares and bed linen can change the whole look of a room.

Key trends to look out for are emerald green as an accent colour, a huge play on 90s style neutrals, Pantone colour of the year (Colour of the year: Magenta.), plain linen, velvet, handmade treasures, a mix of vintage and modern for “granny chic”, textured pieces, marble and layering.

    Thanks for the inspiration WSS!
I need this after just moving. I already have the grey base in a lounge, I can build on that with throws and pillows. Can’t do much with the walls as we rent but it’s a lovely crisp white, so I’ll add some nice artwork.

Every season means a new different kind of fabric or materials at home, it is good to change once in a while to make a difference in your surroundings…
