You’re Engaged! Now What?
Your boyfriend getting down on one knee and saying those four words is something that all girls dream about. I may not be engaged myself, but I have had quite a few friends who have got engaged over the past year or so.
I noticed that while incredibly excited at the prospect of marrying the love of their life. Many of my newly engaged friends just didn’t know what to do with themselves. Once you’ve said yes and have a ring on your finger, what are the next steps?
To help you know what to do after getting engaged, I thought I would share a few tips for what to do next:
Tell people
Before you post that beautiful ring picture on Instagram, whatever you do, tell your friends and family first. No one who you are close to should have to find out about your engagement over social media.
Make sure that before anything is posted online, you have shared the news with your loved ones. Once all your nearest and dearest know – parents, siblings, and best friends, you can then post ring selfies to social media.
Celebrate
Once you have told everyone your good news, the next step is to celebrate. How you choose to celebrate is up to you; most of my friends had parties, but you can do whatever you want.
Some couples celebrate with a fancy meal or a weekend away while others choose to throw a big party for all their friends and family. Whether you want to celebrate quietly or with a big party, it’s up to you, just make sure to do something to mark the occasion.
Talk about when you will get married
Once you have celebrated your big news, the next thing that you and your fiance – how exciting, need to do is talk about when you will get married. Do you want a long engagement or do you want to tie the knot as quickly as possible?
When it comes to discussing when you will have your wedding, it’s important to be practical. If, for example, you haven’t got the money to get married yet, it’s a good idea to wait to set a date until you can afford to pay for everything.
Start your planning
Whether you decide that you will have a long engagement or get married as soon as possible, you still need to start planning your special day. The first thing that you need to do when it comes to wedding planning is think about where you want to get married.
