Has Crystal Renn succumbed to the industry ideal?

One of my favourite models is ‘plus size model’ Chrystal Renn. Crystal is the highest paid ‘plus size’ model in the world at the moment and  is the envy of most ‘regular’ girls because yes, you can be beautiful without being a size 4 Australian or size 0 in America. Can you imagine a dress that small? That is tiny! Being 5’9 nearly 5’10, I cannot even fathom being so thin but a lot of models and celebrities are that size.  To stay that thin, they hardly eat. I read that a couple of them just eat tinned baby food to stay so thin. Can’t be healthy for you, can it? I don’t like the term ‘plus size’ being used for a model who is a size 6-10 (Aus). That is definitely not plus size to me.
I grew up when Cyndi Crawford (I wanted to be just like her!), Claudia Schiffer, Helena Christiansen, Noami Campbell and Linda Evangelista were THE supermodels. They were thin but they still had curves, not like the waifer thin models of today. The poor models of today look so sickly.
Anyway, it was a bit of a shock today to see the latest pics of Crystal Renn looking so thin. Her face was gaunt, very unlike the healthy fuller face she usually has. Before Crystal became ‘the face’ of ‘plus size’ models she was like every other model, starving to stay thin enough to get work. She has admitted that she had an eating disorder and said after a while her body could not take it anymore and she suffered health problems. I really hope she isn’t heading down the same path again.

This was Crystal, in May, modelling for Chanel’s Cruisewear 2011:

Interesting to see that Karl Largerfeld had a ‘plus sized’ model in this show considering he described his true feelings to a German magazine about anyone who would suggest models should represent a variety of sizes: These are fat mummies sitting with their bags of crisps in front of the television, saying that thin models are ugly.” He went on to say that fashion is about “dreams and illusions, and no one wants to see round women.” o_o
Obviously, King Karl has had a change of heart because he has also had Lily Allen as his muse on a few of his other campaigns.

The below pictures are of Crystal in some magazine shoots at her ‘peak’ of ‘plus size’ career:

So, what do you think, has Crystal succumbed to the pressure of the size zero ideal??
