April Movie Releases 2023

There are some great movies being released this month, especially for kids with the upcoming school holidays, with the Super Mario Bros movie, Argonuts and Mavla.  Personally, I’m looking forward to seeing AIR and Mafia Mamma.

April 2nd

The Journey: A Music Special from Andrea Bocelli

April 5th
The Super Mario Bros. Movie

AIR


Sonny Vaccaro and Nike pursue basketball rookie Michael Jordan, creating a partnership that revolutionizes the world of sports and contemporary culture. Director Ben Affleck also stars alongside a cast including Matt Damon, Viola Davis, Chris Tucker and Jason Bateman.

April 6th
Argonuts


In Yolcos, a port city of ancient Greece, the population is threatened by the wrath of Poseidon. A young mouse and the cat who adopted her will help old Jason and his Argonauts to save the city by facing mythical creatures.
Mavka: The Forest Song


Mavka — a Soul of the Forest and its Warden — faces an impossible choice between love and her duty as guardian to the Heart of the Forest, when she falls in love with a human — the talented young musician Lukas.
The Pope’s Exorcist


Inspired by the actual files of Father Gabriele Amorth, Chief Exorcist of the Vatican (Academy Award® winner Russell Crowe), The Pope’s Exorcist follows Amorth as he investigates a young boy’s terrifying possession and ends up uncovering a centuries-old conspiracy the Vatican has desperately tried to keep hidden.

The Red Shoes: Next Step


The Red Shoes: Next Step follows high schooler and talented dancer Sam, who rebels against the discipline required for her to succeed following an unexpected accident, and must rebuild her confidence and embrace her grief in order to reignite her passion for dance.
Releasing in QLD only on April 6, followed by its wider release on April 13.

April 13th
Mafia Mama


A suburban American woman who inherits her grandfather’s Mafia empire, and guided by the Firm’s trusted consigliere defies everyone’s expectations, including her own, as the new head of the family business.

Screening at select HOYTS cinemas.

April 19th
Coldplay – Music of the Spheres: Live at River Plate


Filmed during Coldplay’s sold-out, ten-night run at Buenos Aires’ River Plate stadium, this spectacular concert film features remixed / remastered sound and stunning visuals, including a host of previously-unseen footage. This presentation also includes a special behind-the-scenes documentary – featuring unseen interviews with the band – which is exclusive to cinemas.
Screening at select HOYTS cinemas on Wednesday, April 19 at 7 pm and Sunday, April 23 at 3 pm only.

April 20th
Beau is Afraid


A paranoid man embarks on an epic odyssey to get home to his mother in this bold and ingeniously depraved new film from writer/director Ari Aster.
Evil Dead Rise


This horror offering is a twisted tale of two estranged sisters whose reunion is cut short by the rise of flesh-possessing demons, thrusting them into a primal battle for survival as they face the most nightmarish version of family imaginable.
Available in HOYTS D-BOX sessions with motion recliners moving in sync with the on-screen action.
Jesus Revolution


The true story of a national spiritual awakening in the early 1970s and its origins within a community of teenage hippies in Southern California. In the 1970s, young Greg Laurie is searching for all the right things in all the wrong places: until he meets Lonnie, a charismatic hippie street preacher. Together with Pastor Chuck Smith, they open the doors of Smith’s languishing church to an unexpected revival of radical and newfound love, leading to what TIME Magazine dubbed a Jesus Revolution.

April 27th
Polite Society


A merry mash-up of sisterly affection, parental disappointment and bold action, POLITE SOCIETY follows martial artist-in-training Ria Khan who believes she must save her older sister Lena from her impending marriage. After enlisting the help of her friends, Ria attempts to pull off the most ambitious of all wedding heists in the name of independence and sisterhood.
