August releases at HOYTS

August looks to be a fantastic month for movies. From fast cars to documentaries to fast thrills, there’s something for everyone.

Here’s a quick summary of new release movies at HOYTS:

August 3rd
About my Father

Sebastian’s old-school Italian immigrant father Salvo crashes the 4th of July weekend away with his fiancée’s all-American eccentric family. As the cultures clash, Sebastian and his father learn the true meaning of family through comedic twists. Available at select HOYTS locations.
Meg 2: The Trench

A research team encounters multiple threats while undergoing a daring investigation on an exploratory dive into the depths of the ocean. This sequel is a larger-than-life thrill ride that supersizes the 2018 blockbuster. Go to higher heights and greater depths in D-BOX, with motion recliner seats that will take you deep into unchartered waters like never before.
Never Say Never (Mandarin, English subtitles)

A former boxing champion decides to break a few rules and train orphans from China’s remote countryside to help give them a positive future. Available at select HOYTS locations.
The Miracle Club

In Ireland 1960, there is just one dream for the women of Ballygar to taste freedom: to win a pilgrimage to the sacred French town of Lourdes. They march to their own beat as a group of close friends try and get their ticket of a lifetime. Available at select HOYTS locations.
August 9
Mamamoo: My Con The Movie

Join the powerhouses of K-pop, Idols Solar, Moon Byul, Whee In and Hwa Sa on their first world tour. Screening on Wednesday, August 9 and Saturday, August 12 only.
August 10
Asteroid City

A Wes Anderson film set in an American desert town circa 1955 following a Space Cadet convention that is spectacularly disrupted by world-changing events. Screening at select HOYTS locations.
Dracula: Voyage of the Demeter

Dracula tells the terrifying story of the merchant ship Demeter travelling with dangerous cargo. See it first with your horror-loving friends at the HOYTS Horror Night on August 9.
Gran Turismo: Based on a true story

Based on an unbelievable true story of a team of underdogs who prove nothing is impossible when you’re fuelled from within. This inspiring story follows a struggling working-class gamer, a failed former race car driver and an idealistic motorsport exec – who risk it all to take on the most elite sport in the world. See it first at HOYTS’ Advance Screenings on August 5 and 6, before its wide release on August 10. A must-see in D-BOX!
August 17

They say a dog is a man’s best friend, but what if the man is a total dirtbag? This star-studded comedy follows an abandoned dog (Will Ferrell) teaming up with other strays to get revenge on his former owner. This hilarious comedy is one you won’t want to miss on the big screen.

Sound of Freedom

Mastaney (Punjabi)

Set in 1739, Nadar Shah’s undefeated army was attacked by Sikh Rebellions. Nadar demands to arrest them but it doesn’t work out. Screening at select HOYTS locations.

Andre Rieu’s 2023 Maastricht Concert: Love is All Around

Ego: The Michael Gudinski Story

This feature documentary follows the wild ride of Michael Gudinski over five decades as he became the frontman of a cultural movement and defied convention to revolutionise the Australian music industry.
Haunted Mansion

A Disney comedy about a woman and her son enlisting a motley crew of so-called spiritual experts to help rid their home of supernatural squatters. Inspired by the classic Disney theme park attraction.
Past Lives

Nora and Hae Sung were once two deeply connected childhood friends but were torn apart after Nora’s family emigrates from South Korea. 20 years later, they are reunited for a week where they confront their beliefs about love and destiny. Screening at select HOYTS locations.
The Equaliser 3
