May 2023 Movie Releases at HOYTS

As N*Sync once sang “It’s Gonna Be May” (ok, it’s really “It’s gonna be me” but you know the deal on social media) and this month is HUGE with new movie releases. One of the most anticipated releases of this year, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 is sure to break box office records, Book Club 2 brings in the laughs and Ben Affleck is back in a riveting thriller.

Here is a quick rundown of May’s movies releases, thanks to Hoyts:

May 3rd

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3

In Marvel Studios Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, our beloved band of misfits are looking a bit different these days. Peter Quill, still reeling from the loss of Gamora, must rally his team around him to defend the universe along with protecting one of their own. A mission that, if not completed successfully, could quite possibly lead to the end of the Guardians as we know them.

Polite Society

A merry mash-up of sisterly affection, parental disappointment and bold action, POLITE SOCIETY follows martial artist-in-training Ria Khan who believes she must save her older sister Lena from her impending marriage. After enlisting the help of her friends, Ria attempts to pull off the most ambitious of all wedding heists in the name of independence and sisterhood.

May 5th

Jodi (Punjabi)

Set in the vibrant and culturally rich backdrop of Punjab in the 1980s, “Jodi” is a musical drama that weaves together the fictional tale of two talented and passionate artists on a journey to redefine the Punjabi folk music scene.

Book Club 2: The Next Chapter

Four best friends take their book club to Italy for a fun girls’ trip they never had. When things go off the rails and secrets are revealed, their relaxing vacation turns into a once-in-a-lifetime cross-country adventure.

Love Again

A young woman tries to ease the pain of her fiancé’s death by sending romantic texts to his old cell phone number and forms a connection with the man the number has been reassigned to.


A detective becomes entangled in a mystery involving his missing daughter and a secret government program while investigating a string of impossible high-end heists.

May 13th

Machine Gun Kelly: Mainstream Sellout Live from Cleveland

Mainstream Sellout Live from Cleveland: The Pink Era takes fans on a journey with Machine Gun Kelly for his unforgettable 2022 homecoming performance at Cleveland’s FirstEnergy Stadium along with exclusive behind-the-scenes moments from his sold-out world tour.

Screening at select HOYTS locations on Saturday, May 13 at 7 pm only.

May 14th

John Farnham: Finding the Voice

This tells the untold story of an Australian music icon. In this first authorised biopic, we follow Farnham’s life from the quiet suburbs of Melbourne to ‘60s pop fame, through incredible highs and lows, and ultimately to record-breaking success as ‘Australia’s Voice’.

See it early this Mother’s Day at the Advance Screenings on Sunday, May 14.

May 18th

Fast X

The end of the road begins. Fast X, the tenth film in the Fast & Furious Saga, launches the final chapters of one of cinema’s most storied and popular global franchises, now in its third decade and still going strong with the same core cast and characters as when it began. The Little Mermaid

Evil doesn’t span eternity without a little help. In this modern monster tale of Dracula’s loyal servant, Nicholas Hoult stars as Renfield, the tortured aide to history’s most narcissistic boss, Dracula (Oscar® winner Nicolas Cage). Renfield is forced to procure his master’s prey and do his every bidding, no matter how debased.

Maybe I Do

Michelle and Allen are in a relationship. They decide to invite their parents to finally meet about marriage. Turns out, the parents already know one another well, which leads to some differing opinions about marriage.

Bank of Dave

The Boogeyman
