Which Types Of Air Freshener Last The Longest?

When it comes to making your home smell fresh and clean, you want a long-term solution – not just a nice scent that lingers for a mere few minutes. Constantly having to renew your air freshener of choice can become tiresome, not to mention expensive.

Luckily, there are multiple options that will last for quite some time before you need to renew them again. To help you in your battle against stale odours, let’s take a look at our favourite air fresheners with a focus on longevity.

Plug-in fresheners

Plug-in air fresheners are a very popular solution and for good reason. You can have them so that they’re only activated when you walk past or set them so that they continually release their fragrance.

They can operate for around 2 months without you needing to touch them, and tend to come with heaps of refills. They’re an economic solution and can cover up quite powerful odours – a great solution if you have a particularly smelly pet.

Stylish options

While you might think that you need to choose between a stylish solution or a long-lasting option, what if we told you that you could have both? You’ll be pleased to know that it’s definitely not a question of either one or the other, you just need to be smart when choosing.

One stylish and long-lasting option is to use Oud reed diffusers. They look great, consisting of a small pot of liquid, in which sit a few natural rattan reeds. The main perk of these is that they smell great for a minimum of four months, with no intervention.

Air purifiers

While most air fresheners try to improve the smell of a room by covering up smells, some options come with air purifiers as well. These options tend to feature high-efficiency particulate air (HEPA) filters, that aim to improve the quality of the air in your home as well as make it smell better.

There is a wide range of air purifying solutions, and each one will last a different amount of time. High-quality filters can last around 6 months, although this can also depend on the quality of the air in your home – the more it needs to remove from the air, the shorter it’ll remain effective.

Essential oil diffusers

While essential oil diffusers don’t last long, we thought they’re worth a mention. They smell amazing, and you only need to put a few drops in for them to work their magic. This means that while they may need topping up regularly, they’re still very cheap to run, and you can change the smell multiple times per day.

As you can see by now, there are a lot of options to choose from when it comes to freshening the air in your home. Which one you choose depends on your stylistic preferences, and how long you want to stick with a single smell.
