4 Delicious and Authentic Tex-Mex Chicken Recipes

Tex-Mex was born because of a delightful combination of multiple cultures. Mexico was settled by Spanish conquistadors, and later they earned their independence.

Then Texas earned its independence from Mexico, and the three cultures diverged. Their traditional recipes also went their separate ways, eventually becoming what we know today.

Using Tex-Mex chicken recipes is a good way to add diversity and sophistication to your weekly menu. Add one new recipe per week or do a themed week of dinners with several Tex-Mex additions. However you space it out, your taste buds will thank you.

1. Soup and Nachos

Tex-Mex recipes can help you spice up your regular winter soup. In fact, if you make your favorite chicken tortilla soup, you can make it even more interesting by serving nachos with it.

Instead of including tortilla strips in the soup like many recipes call for, serving it with nachos gives you the tortilla taste you love and the nacho toppings to dress them up. Combining two Tex-Mex dishes gives your dinner the best of both choices.

Your nachos can have cheese, sour cream, guacamole, olives, tomatoes, and other nacho extras. They’ll go great with your soup!

2. Chicken Tinga Tacos

Sometimes the simplest meals can make the most delicious dinners. Chicken Tinga Tacos are like that. They’re just shredded chicken tacos cooked with tomatoes and chipotle chili peppers, but they taste amazing!

All you do is sauté some basic ingredients then combine them in the blender to make the tinga sauce. Simmer the sauce until it thickens, and add the cooked chicken. Then you can serve the meat on tostadas or tacos or with any other dish.

3. Tex-Mex Chicken Recipes: Chili

If you’re looking for different chicken recipes, choosing something Tex-Mex can add some new flavors to your regular chili. Chili is one of those recipes that everyone has a different recipe for and they all swear theirs is the best.

What’s actually the best is when you can put everything in the slow cooker and then forget about it until you’re hungry for dinner. Throw all your delicious ingredients in at the start of the day, like pinto beans, diced sweet potatoes, and tomatillo salsa. Season with cumin, chili powder, salt, and pepper.

4. Pozole

Some of the most delicious chicken recipes are from the Tex-Mex category, like pozole. Add chicken to this traditional Tex-Mex soup made with hominy; it can be green or red, depending on whether you use tomatillos or tomatoes for your base. Pozole also has onions, garlic, and jalapenos.

The easiest way to add the hominy is to use canned hominy. Two 15-oz cans is plenty for 9 cups of broth. If you’re cooking dried hominy, you’ll want to start earlier. Here are some instructions.
