Baby Essentials Every New Mum Needs

Giving birth is one of the most wonderful experiences a woman can have, and being a Mum to a new bundle of joy is such a blessing. Like any journey, it is important to have all the appropriate supplies, to ensure that the journey is as smooth as possible. Here are a few of the essentials to start gathering together before the big day.

Pram

One thing that every new mum needs is a pram, and it is one of the most valuable things to have, providing the opportunity to get out of the house and go for walks. The reality of having a new bub is that there will be times when baby is unsettled, and may cry for what seems like no reason at all. Taking baby for a walk will lull baby to sleep, and provide space to think for any new mum.

Sling or Baby Carrier

In some countries, the new baby does not touch the ground, or leave the mothers side for the first year of life. This is an important time when the bond of birth is released in a gradual way, which allows the baby to gently get used to being separated from the mother. While it is not always possible for every mother to do this, due to work, and life commitments, having a sling will allow this connection to be maintained as much as possible.

It also allows mother (or anyone else who is holding bub) to keep their hands free while still maintaining that soothing close connection with the baby.

Nursing Clothes

Planning ahead with appropriate clothes is an essential part of the preparations of bringing a new baby into the world. There was once a time when maternity/nursing clothes were quite drab, and the only clothing available for new mothers was daggy stuff that made them feel dumpy. Thankfully nursing and maternity wear has become much more stylish, with whole ranges of beautiful clothing available for this time in a woman’s life. Websites such as this URL have a range of lovely nursing clothing available, so there is no need to buy the unflattering old t-shirts etc.

Blankets

One thing that every new baby needs plenty of is blankets. Swaddling baby will help to provide that secure feeling, especially in the early days after birth, and it’s important to have plenty of blankets on hand just in case they get soiled (which is likely to happen). Keep at least two with you at all times, to ensure that you have one for using and one back-up.

Nappies

These days there are so many different choices of nappies available that there is much to consider when deciding what sort of nappy to use for bub. Whether you want to use disposable nappies, or are committed to using reusable ones, it’s totally up to you, and there is no right or wrong answer.

Now is a good time to make a list of any other essentials that you think you might need for the new bub, and start gathering them together in preparation. Do you have everything that you need?
