Rules to Live By for Clear Skin

clear skin

If you long for clear skin, you need to make sure you’re doing what you can to achieve it. Clear skin doesn’t just happen by accident; you have to work for it! Only a handful of very lucky people are born with perfectly clear skin. If you want to make your skin as clear as you can, here are some rules to live by:

Stay Hydrated

Make sure you stay hydrated to keep your skin healthy, bright, and glowing. Staying hydrated can also help to clear your skin of blemishes and imperfections. Make sure you drink at least 2 litres of water per day, and even some green tea. Avoid drinking fizzy drinks, juice, and other sugary/calorific drinks. They can all hinder your skin. Stick to water, and add some sliced lemon for an extra detoxifying effect.

Never Sleep With Your Makeup On

Sleeping with your makeup on is a really bad habit. Your makeup will clog up your pores and leave you with excess oil, blemishes and marks. Always take your makeup off before bed. If you can, do a double cleanse with a proper cleanser. If you don’t have the energy (or maybe you’ve been drinking) at least make sure you use a face wipe or two. Get as much off as you can before hitting the hay.

Keep Up a Routine Twice a Day

A cleansing, toning, and moisturising routine is essential. Make sure you keep it up twice a day to get the best results possible. Do it in the morning on waking, and in the evening. If you go to the gym, do it immediately afterwards to get rid of sweat and stop a breakout.   We love Sisley Gentle Makeup Remover, Phyto-Blanc Lightening Foaming Cleanser,  Sisley Floral Toner and Cream Reparatrice moisturiser. Also recommended are Dermologica (you can buy the pack above for only $20 at David Jones stores at the moment), Philosophy, Garnier and Olay.

Keep Sugar Low

Sugar should be kept low, as too much of it can give you spots. A sugary diet is bad for you in many other ways too, so be sensible!

Only Use Products That Suit Your Skin

Don’t pick up any old product; make sure you use products that suit your skin. Know your skin type and buy products that correspond with it. If you use the wrong products, your skin will only get worse. It may help you to look at the comedogenic rating of a product before using it, so you can gauge whether it will clog your pores or not.

Keep Pillowcases Fresh

Some people don’t realise that dirty pillowcases can be the main reason skin gets clogged up. Keep your pillowcases fresh and you should notice your skin stays fresh too. If you have particularly bad skin, try swapping them every day or every other day and seeing if you notice a difference.

If you live by these rules, your skin should clear up in no time at all. We all have off days, but just make sure you don’t let these happen very often. Take care of your skin and it’ll thank you in the long run! If you don’t, you’ll wish you did in a few years time. See you again soon!
