Inside Sydney’s Coastal Luxury Spa. The Signature Treatments Inspired By Wellness Traditions From Around The World

There’s a particular kind of self-care that happens right as the seasons turn, when your body seems to need something different from what got you through winter. It turns out there’s a name for it: transeasonal wellness, and it’s fast becoming one of the biggest ideas shaping luxury spa experiences right now. The newly opened Èliva Spa at InterContinental Sydney Coogee Beach has built its entire signature offering around exactly this idea, and as we edge out of winter and into spring, the timing couldn’t be better.
Èliva welcomes both hotel guests and locals through its doors, which I love. You don’t need to be checking in for a stay to experience what’s on offer here. The spa’s approach draws on wellness traditions from around the world, layered with Australian botanicals and premium Omorovicza skincare, to create rituals designed to help your body adjust as temperatures, energy and everything else shifts through the year.

The Signature Experiences
There are five signature rituals exclusive to Èliva, each built around a different tradition or therapeutic approach.
The Moor Mud Detoxifier is the standout, and at 120 minutes, it’s clearly designed to be a proper afternoon rather than a quick add-on. It draws on Hungary’s renowned Moor Mud, long valued for its detoxifying and skin-repairing properties, paired with Omorovicza’s Hungarian skincare heritage. If you’ve never experienced a full-body mineral mud ritual before, this sounds like the one to start with.

Journey to Coogee leans into where the spa actually sits, drawing on thalassotherapy and the healing qualities of the sea. It combines mineral-rich marine ingredients with massage and a facial designed to restore and revitalise, which feels like a fitting tribute to the beachside location.
For something more intensely relaxing, the Thermal Salt Stone Massage uses warmed salt stones across the body to ease muscle tension, boost circulation and calm the nervous system. There’s also the Herbal & Eucalyptus Ritual, blending stretching, body rocking and herbal poultice techniques finished with an Èliva facial refresh, and the Èliva Retreat, a couples experience that moves from thermal immersion through to a personalised massage and facial before finishing in the recovery lounge with a drink in hand.
Every signature treatment also includes access to Èliva’s thermal wellness facilities: warm and hot pools, steam rooms, traditional and infrared saunas, cold plunges and vitamin C showers. It’s the kind of setup that makes the treatment itself feel like just the beginning of the visit rather than the whole point.

The Woman Behind It
Èliva’s Director of Spa & Wellness, Gwen Giorla, brings more than two decades of experience from some of the world’s most respected wellness destinations, including Claridge’s London, Four Seasons, Park Hyatt, VIVAMAYR Austria, Raffles Singapore and Equinox London. Her approach is grounded in nature and traditional spa practice, which comes through clearly in how considered this whole offering feels. As Giorla puts it, the signature experiences are designed to be immersive rituals that guests genuinely can’t find anywhere else.

If You Want to Make a Night of It
Èliva has an Experience Package starting from $829 per night for two, available for stays until the end of the year (blackout dates apply). It includes overnight accommodation in a Classic Coogee View, Premium Pool View or Premium Ocean View room, 60 minutes of thermal facility access for two guests, a $100 dining credit at Shutters Restaurant & Bar or Rick Stein at Coogee Club, InterContinental Club access for two, and complimentary self-parking.
