WSS Food: Red Rooster Winter Warmers

I grew up in the country and our nearest takeaway stores consisted of fish and chips, pizza or the only Chinese restaurant in the area. So when we went to Melbourne for shopping or other activities, we always popped into the local Red Rooster for lunch or dinner. That was over 30 years ago! Did you know this year Red Rooster has been serving Aussie families roast chicken goodness for 45 years?

Of course, the original Red Rooster roll was (and still is) my favourite and as a kid I used to stick my chips into the roll and eat it that way. Yum! Finally, Red Rooster caught onto their customers putting their chips in their rolls and have created the Chicken, Chips and Gravy Roll (pictured, above), as part of their new Winter Warmers menu. Red Rooster has done all the hard work for you!

As well as the Chicken, Chips and Gravy roll, Red Rooster have created a roll that includes their famous roast meal. A classic roast dinner in the palm of your hand! The Roast Dinner Roll consists of pulled roast chicken, crispy skin, chopped potatoes and pumpkin, and peas on a fresh bread roll. All for $8.95! How cheap and convenient is that?

Speaking of convenience, did you know participating Red Rooster restaurants offer delivery? Perfect for when you want to feed the family but don’t want to go out in the cold!

Another yummy item on the Winter Warmer menu you might like to try, are the Mash & Gravy balls. Just as the name suggests, crispy balls are filled with mash potato and gravy. You can buy 3 balls for $2, 8 for $5 and 20 for $10.

The Verdict:

We tried the Winter Menu last Friday night. On Friday nights, the boys go to youth group at different times (5.30-7.30pm and 7.30-9.30pm), so it can be quite hard to orchestrate preparing dinner with being a taxi Mum. It was a lot easier (and quicker!) to grab some take away before they went.

The boys and I had the Chicken, Chips and Gravy roll, while my husband had the Roast Dinner roll, all of which we ordered as regular meals with chips and a drink. The rolls are delicious and were very filling. The boys loved the mash and gravy balls. The Red Rooster meals offer a great, fast and convenient family dinner, without the hassle of cooking or having to dish out meals. We will definitely order them again.

What do you think? Will you be trying out Red Rooster’s new Winter warmer menu?
