Common Mistakes That Can Damage Your Skin

Want your skin to have a youthful appearance and healthy glow? Avoid these very common mistakes that could be damaging your skin:

Not Wearing Sunscreen

It’s amazing that there are still people who regularly go out in the sun without first applying sunscreen, but there are, and it is undoubtedly damaging their skin, causing it to age prematurely and in some cases, even causing cancer. Don’t ever go out in the daylight without sunscreen!

Our favourite sun protectants: Invisible Zinc Sheer Defence SPF50, Sun Bum SPF50, Avene SPF50 Spray and La Roche-Posay Anthelios XL Ultra-Light Spray SPF 50+.

Keeping Your Environment Too Dry

If the air in your home is too dry, then it can cause dry, itchy skin. There is no need for this to happen when all it takes is a humidifier to solve the problem. Put a little more moisture back into your environment, and you’ll immediately notice an improvement in your skin.

Using Hairspray

Most of you probably use hairspray some of the time – it’s the best way of controlling your hair and giving it some style at a pinch – but did you know that the chemicals in hairspray can cause havoc for your skin? If you must use it, ensure that your face is covered first!

Not Washing Thoroughly After Swimming

Chlorine is an essential part of the pool – it keeps nasty bacteria at bay – but it can also dry out your skin and even bleach it if you regularly come into contact with it. That’s why it’s really important that, in your post-swim shower, you really lather up with soap and remove every trace of it from your body.

Popping Pimples

It’s oh so tempting to pop that pimple and be done with it, but it’s not actually all that good for your skin. It could actually introduce more bacteria into the pores, which is never a good thing, and could lead to an infection that will be much more unsightly than that little zit. Just conceal it.

Eating Junk Food

Junk food is really bad for the skin. It can cause pimples and acne, premature ageing and a sallow complexion. Conversely, fruits and vegetables, as well as lean proteins, feed the skin from the inside out, giving you a healthy glow that it’s difficult to replicate with products. So, avoid the junk and eat a healthy balanced diet if you want to have a healthy complexion.

Not Removing Your Makeup

If you get in after a night out and decide to crash out without first removing your makeup, you’re probably clogging up your pores, and you know what that means – blackheads, pimples and acne. It’s so not worth it – wipe it off! No need for a deep cleanse, all you need is some makeup remover wipes or micellar water and a few cotton pads.  We swear by Biore’s Baking Soda micellar water, Garnier Micellar Cleansing Wipes, Cetaphil Cleansing Cloths and Cinch Face It 5 in 1 Micellar Cleansing Water.

Not Drinking Enough Water

If you don’t get enough water, not only will you find it hard to concentrate and possibly start to feel ill, but your skin will also become less plump and start to age sooner than it really needs to. Hydration is important!

If you can avoid these very common mistakes, then there is no doubt that your skin will benefit from it and before too long you’ll be looking more radiant than ever.
