Love Movie Nights? How To Create A Home Cinema On A Budget

When you love watching movies as a family, you might have already thought about creating a cinema room in your home. But, you can often believe that it’s a pipe dream. Whether you’ve brushed it off as too expensive, think you haven’t got the room for it, or even say you don’t have the time to get it done, you’d be surprised to discover that creating a home cinema on a budget is actually feasible. So, to start enjoying your favourite films in their own special room, it’s time to get to work!

Utilise That Old Room

First up, you’re going to want to find the space for it. More often than not, you’ve got a room in the house that’s completely discarded and wasting away. Maybe you’ve got a garage that’s used for storage, a spare room collecting dust or even an old study or playroom that’s seen better days? These rooms would be perfect for your home cinema. You might even find that you can rearrange your layout to give your home theatre a prime position.

Spruce It Up

Now that you’ve chosen the room, it’s time to spruce it up. You might need to have a huge clear out to get rid of some of the clutter and store things you still need elsewhere, but it will be worth the work. When the room is clear, you’re going to work on cleaning it up and then sprucing it up a little too. Whether the place needs a lick of paint or even the carpets stripping back, you’ll feel the excitement coming on as you start to get stuck in.

Get Comfy

With the shell of your home cinema room ready, it’s time to think about the furniture that you need. At this point, it could help you to take a look at a few different ideas online for inspiration. Then, when you’ve worked out what you want, it’s time to either save up or start buying bit by bit. Whether you want a cool squishy sofa, individual leather arm chairs or something quirky like a poof chair (find more from Sack Daddy), hold out for your ideal room. This doesn’t have to be an overnight transformation, what matters is that it’s right – even if it means you take a few months to save.

Source Your Screen

Then it’s time to think about the screen. When you’ve chosen your style of furniture, you can then consider the kind of setup you want for the screen itself. Some cool options can be projector screens (find a few cool idea on Pinterest here). You can often project right onto the wall, straight from your laptop while watching Netflix, or even from a DVD player – meaning you don’t need a fancy home cinema system at all.

Decorate, Decorate, Decorate

Then it’s time to add the finishing touches. Whether you want a popcorn machine in the corner or a candy stand, you can really make the room your own. You might even find that it doubles perfectly for kids birthday parties (more on decorating ideas for that here). Above all else, it needs to feel like the perfect home cinema room of your dreams.
