Summer Clothing Guide: Here’s How To Dress Your Toddler The Right Way

Summer brings happy and positive vibes along. It means more opportunities to go out, enjoying cool and refreshing drinks, and no more layering up. But, it also means that you need to stay protected from the sun. Not to mention, the same applies to your baby.

You might wish to dress up your baby in stylish clothes, but you have to ensure that they feel comfortable and protected.

Unlike adults, the risk of sunburn and overexposure to the sun is higher in kids. Therefore, you need to be extra careful during summers. In fact, doctors recommend not taking your baby out between 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. during the hottest months.

Obviously, it is easier said than done. Fortunately, what summerwear you select and how you style your kids can help them stay safe.

  • Choose Cotton Fabric

Due to the underdeveloped regulation capacity and less space to sweat, kids can get heat exhaustion quickly, increasing the risk of overheating. Thus to ensure that your little bundle of joy stays cool, you should select loose-fitted cotton clothes. Lightweight cotton outfits will allow better air circulation. So the body will remain cool, and sweat will evaporate properly, preventing itching or skin irritation.

Also, make sure that the clothes selected have tight-weaves for better sun protection. You can verify this by holding the cloth up to the sun. If the light shining through the fabric is less, it means the outfit will keep your baby comfortable and protected.

  • Purchase Sun Hat And Sunglasses

Whenever you plan to take your kid out, even if it is for a short while, make sure they wear a sun hat and sunglasses. It will keep the face, neck, ears, and scalp protected. Keep in mind that these are the most sunburn-prone areas. Therefore, you should never go out of the house without a hat.

Nevertheless, toddlers usually have the habit of removing the caps or hats. Therefore, it is suggested to use a wide-brimmed sun hat with strings that tie under the chin. It will ensure that your baby can’t remove the hat. However, make sure that the string is less than 6 inches. It will ensure that the baby feels comfortable with the hat.

In addition to this, you should also carry sunglasses whenever going out. It will help in blocking UVA and UVB rays.

  • Pick Smart Sandals

Ideally, toddlers have tender feet who are excited to explore everything around them. So, while selecting your baby first walking shoes, ensure that they provide protection and grip to the feet. Apart from this you also have to take several factors into consideration. For instance, the heels of shoes should be cushioned to avoid blisters and rubbing.

Likewise, the soles should be of rubber to prevent slipping and provide protection from sharp objects. Also, ensure that the hooks and loops are adjustable.

Remember that the right shoes will give them the freedom to move comfortably. It is essential for their growth.

  • Focus On Minimal Layering

Layering might make your baby look adorable, but it can also make them uncomfortable. Summer season calls for loose outfits with a minimum layering. Remove any unnecessary piece of clothing from the outfit. Loosen up buttons of the onesie and go with cotton t-shirts and dresses.

However, minimal or short clothing means you need to ensure that the uncovered skin is protected from the sun. In simple terms, don’t forget to apply a generous amount of sunscreen. It will protect the skin from UVA and UVB rays. Also, make sure to reapply the sunblock often.

  • Keep The Skin Cover Near The Beach Or Pool

Hot weather means spending more time outdoors, especially near the pool and beach. It also means that your sunshine will get to wear their favorite swimwear. For proper protection against the sun, try to slip over a loose t-shirt over the swimwear. Also, complete the look with a hat and sunglasses.

If your baby doesn’t like to wear a t-shirt, you can switch the swimwear with a “rash” shirt. It is a body-hugging, short-sleeved t-shirt/top. You might have seen numerous surfers wearing the same. These are perfect for beech and ensure that your kids feel comfortable.

According to the skin cancer foundation, you can also consider purchasing UPF swimsuits. The ideal UPF for the kids is 50. However, if you can’t have 50 UPF sunscreen, try to get a suit with at least 30 UPF.

  • Select The Right PJs

What clothes your baby wears during sleep is also crucial. You need to select the right pajamas to ensure they don’t feel too hot or get cold at night. It usually depends upon the house temperature in the evening.

For instance, if you use the AC at a low temperature, you must ensure that the baby has a blanket and is wearing full pajamas. On the contrary, if the temperature is ideal, it would be best to wear lightweight and breathable material cloth for sleeping.

Note: To ensure that your baby gets a good night’s sleep, make sure to change the bedsheets often. Use cotton sheets, as they are soft and very comfortable during summer.

  • Wash The Clothes In Sunguard

As you might already know, darker colors are good for blocking sun rays. However, they tend to absorb the heat, causing the body to feel intensely hot. On the other hand, light colors reflect the heat but are not effective in blocking sun rays.

That’s why it is recommended to wash your baby’s clothes using SunGuard. It helps create a protective layer over the light-colored cloths, which helps block the sun rays. It will ensure that whatever your kids wear, they feel relaxed. Not to forget, it will also reduce the chances of sunburn or skin irritation.

To Sum It All Up!

Summers are fun and exciting. But to make the most out of it, make sure that your kid is wearing comfortable clothes that give them the freedom to move around. Also, in case of sunburn, use aloe vera gel or ice to relieve the pain. And take them to the doctor to avoid severe conditions.
