sensitive skin

If you suffer from skin that’s sensitive, you need to be careful of how you treat it. Use the wrong face cream or a facial scrub that’s too harsh and you could end up with a face like a lobster. (Not an attractive look!)That’s why, unless you want red, sore skin, being choosy about the products you use on your face is important.

When it comes to beauty products, the main problem is that it can be hard to know what is suitable to use on your skin. The most important thing is always to read the label carefully and be wary of products containing irritants. As well as this, there are also a few other things you can do to ensure that your sensitive skin is well taken care of.

If you want to keep your sensitive skin happy, here are some rules to live by:

Always do a skin test

Before applying any new product to your face, always do a skin test first. The best place to do this is behind your ear, as if your skin reacts, it’s out of sight.

After applying the product to the test area, wait for at least 12 hours and see whether you experience any problems. Look out for redness, itching or any other irritation. If it looks all good, then you’re safe to apply the product to your face.

Go natural

Lots of beauty products are packed full of chemicals that can cause all sorts of skin problems, especially for sensitive skin. That’s why, when it comes to your cosmetics, going down the natural route is a good option.

You’ll find that by swapping to natural products, like goats milk soap and aloe vera face cream, that your skin is healthier. Products that are chemical-free are less likely to cause stinging or burning, as they don’t contain any irritants. That being said, it’s still a good idea to do a skin test, just to double check.

Google any ingredients that you are unsure about

When it comes to choosing new products, it’s important to read the label thoroughly, including the ingredient list. This includes when buying natural products, as not all cosmetics labelled ‘natural’ are chemical-free. So it’s always worth double-checking.

If you come across any ingredients that you are unsure about, take the time to research them before you buy. This can be a quick check on your smartphone, but it’s better to go home and research to ensure that you don’t miss anything.

Moisturise every day

When it comes to moisturising, you need to ensure that you are applying your face cream at least once a day. Sensitive skin is even more vulnerable to damage and dryness that other skin types, so moisturising regularly is a must. Obviously, it’s important to ensure that when you pick a moisturiser that you opt for a sensitive one. Otherwise, it could end up causing your skin to flare up and become sore.

When it comes to sensitive skin, the key to success is being choosy about what you are willing to use. Always read the ingredients, and as far as possible, always opt for natural products. They might be more expensive, but your skin will thank you for it.
