Top Tips For Boosting Upper Body Strength

When it comes to upper body strength, us girls are at a disadvantage. Compared to our male counterparts, we lack natural upper body strength. Studies have shown that while men’s upper body strength is often equal to their lower body strength, for us girls it’s not the same. Compared to our lower body, our shoulders and chest muscles only have half the amount of strength.

The good news is that increasing our upper body strength is fairly easy, it’s just a case of putting in place the right workout regime. To help you do that, here are a few tips and ideas.

 

Perfect your weight training

The best way to increase your upper body strength is through weight training. However, not just any form of weight training will help, you need to work out what areas of your upper body you want to work on, and then go from there. As a rule of thumb, the best exercises for boosting upper body strength tend to be push ups, pull ups and curls. You can find tutorials on YouTube for doing all of these safely.

You might not think that you’re strong enough to perform these exercise, but over time, your strength will grow. Start off using low weights and then gradually increase the weight that you’re using. Within just a few weeks of weight training, you’ll see a big difference.

 

Invest in a pull-up bar

One of the best tools for increasing your upper body strength is a pull up bar. While you could use the bar at your local gym, having one at home will allow you to increase your strength more quickly. While most pull up bars attach to the wall, they don’t have to. There are various pull-up bar designs that are on stands so that you don’t have to worry about damaging the wall.

The great thing about pull up bars is that you can do a range of different exercises with them. While to start off with you may only be able to do a small pull up, your strength will quickly increase. Within a few weeks of pull up bar use, you’ll be able to perform a range of exercises.

 

Use dumbbells

To help strengthen the muscles in your upper body, investing in a set of dumbbells is a good idea. As someone that’s new to weight training, it’s best to opt for weights that aren’t too heavy. Else, you could end up injuring yourself while working out. Start using low weights and then over time slowly increase the weight level that you’re using.

For exercises, your best bet is to use YouTube. On here you’ll find a range of exercises you can do with dumbbells to help improve your upper body strength. Wrist curls, bicep curls and weight lifts are all perfect for helping to boost your strength.
