Top Tips to Find an Amazing Wine
Sometimes, life just calls for a delicious fine wine. Whether you’re celebrating a birthday or anniversary, or simply having guests over, you can find a wine to suit the occasion (and your budget) perfectly. Using the following tips, you’ll be able to find an amazing wine suited to the special occasion.
Look for Stamps of Approval
When you’re looking for a good wine, look for stamps of approval too. These should be displayed on the bottle of good wine, and you can bet that you’ve found a good one if it’s won an award or something like that. Remember, it doesn’t necessarily need to be expensive for it to be good.
Read the Back Label
Read the back label before you get taken in by the front label. Front labels can be awfully attractive and make you want to buy, but you shouldn’t before you’ve read what flavours are in the wine. The back label should reveal all and give you an idea of whether you’ll like it or not.
Taste it
If possible, taste the wine. You might be able to do this at a dedicated wine shop or if you’re buying wine at a restaurant. The way to taste is quite complicated, though, so don’t just swig away. First, you need to sniff it and swirl it to try to get an idea of what you can smell. Try to pick up on different scents. The wine will usually smell like what it tastes like, so if you think it smells good it will usually taste good too. Once you’ve sniffed it, you can take a very small sip. The key is to let the wine stay on your tongue for a second so you can pick up the flavours. Try to decipher what you can taste. Melon? Citrus? Oak? If the flavour stays with you long after you’ve swallowed it, it’s a good wine!
Don’t be Afraid of Screw Tops
Some people think that screw top wines aren’t as good as cork wines, but this isn’t the case at all. Around 8% of cork wines are undrinkable, so companies that use screwtops are simply being cautious. Many delicious Boutique wines come with a screw top.
Stick to What You Know
If you find a wine you absolutely love, don’t be afraid to stick to it for special occasions. There’s no need to go out of your way to find a completely different wine for every occasion.
Pay Attention to the Region
Certain regions produce high-quality wine. France is an obvious one, but places like Spain and Chile can be amazing too. You might be surprised at the quality of wine from some of the lesser-known regions.
You can find an amazing wine whatever your budget, no matter the occasion. Use the tips in this guide and you really can’t go wrong. If you’re still unsure, don’t be afraid to ask a wine enthusiast friend or for help from the waiter/shop assistant. Thanks for reading!
