WSS Beauty: Bobbi Brown Cosmetics and Kiva Partner to Empower Women

For more than 15 years, Bobbi Brown Cosmetics has worked hard to empower women beyond makeup. Through The Pretty Powerful Campaign for Women & Girls, the brand has worked with non-profits including Dress for Success and Girl Rising to help women develop job skills, reenter the workforce and gain access to educational resources.

In March 2017, the brand will continue its empowerment movement by partnering with international non-profit Kiva, which has helped more than 2 million women in 82 countries secure microloans that allow them to pursue an education or start a small business.
“The Pretty Powerful Campaign for Women & Girls focuses on confidence,” says Peter Lichtenthal, President of Bobbi Brown Cosmetics, “And nothing makes a woman or girl feel more confident than a good education and the knowledge and skills to better her life and the lives of her family.”
To support the critical role that education plays in lifting women and girls out of poverty, Bobbi Brown Cosmetics has made a donation of $300K to Kiva to support projects that will specifically benefit women and girls around the world who want to go to school, start or grow a business, and overall, realise their potential. These projects will be marked as sponsored by Bobbi Brown on Kiva.org.
Those interested in helping women and girls thrive can visit Kiva.org and choose who they want to lend to. Individual loans of $25 or more are collected until the borrower’s full loan request is “crowdfunded.” As the woman repays, lenders can relend that same money to another person at Kiva.org or withdraw their money and put it back in their pocket.
For every contribution an individual makes to the sponsored projects, Bobbi Brown Cosmetics will match that loan, up to a total of $300K. Over the course of three years, as loans are repaid, recycled, and re-deployed, the impact of Bobbi Brown’s initial donation will triple its reach, touching the lives of a projected 3,200 women and 6,400 children.
To raise awareness around the effect that microloans can have on women around the world, Bobbi Brown will introduce a new, limited-edition shade of the iconic Pot Rouge decorated with the Pretty Powerful Campaign logo. The universally flattering dusty pink shade is the perfect multitasking colour that can be worn on lips or cheeks for an instant, natural flush of colour.
