WSS Entertainment: The Good Dinosaur

Fresh off of their success from “Inside Out”, The crew at Disney-Pixar visually stuns audiences with their new heartwarming tale “The Good Dinosaur”. Pixar have always been a shining light of absolute quality in story telling, characters and animation (such as Cars, Toy Story, Wall-E, Finding Nemo and Up!). The animation in this film is phenomenal and  makes it incredibly hard to tell if the scenery is real or animated. Yes, it is that good!

Synopsis:

“The Good Dinosaur” asks the question: What if the asteroid that forever changed life on Earth missed the planet completely and giant dinosaurs never became extinct? Luckily for young Apatosaurus named Arlo, his parents (Jeffrey Wright, Frances McDormand) and his two siblings, the mighty dinosaurs were not wiped out 65 million years ago.

When a rainstorm washes poor Arlo (Raymond Ochoa) downriver, he ends up bruised, battered and miles away from home. Good fortune shines on the frightened dino when he meets Spot (Jack Bright), a Neanderthal boy who offers his help and friendship. Together, the unlikely duo embark on an epic adventure to reunite Arlo with his beloved family.  While traveling through a harsh and mysterious landscape, Arlo learns the power of confronting his fears and discovers what he is truly capable of.

What we thought:

I admit, I cried a few times during the film. When a character dies or misses their family or reunites with their family, it is always an emotional thing for me. Even my youngest, who isn’t usually effected by moves, got teary in parts. It is a really emotionally moving movie.

As I mentioned above, the richness, beauty and detail of the animation is incredible and very lifelike. Some of the best moments in this film are told cinematically, without any dialogue. The scenery was just stunning. As well as the emotional aspects to the movie, there were a lot of funny moments to level it out.

Like all Disney-Pixar movies, The Good Dinosaur has an underlying message, which in this case is “Find your inner strength and believing in yourself and your capabilities” or “when faced with bad things in life, you can always overcome them”.

We found ‘The Good Dinosaur’ to be a good hearted family friendly story for the whole family to enjoy.
