Simple Ways To Create Child-Friendly Gardens

When the sun is shining, there’s nothing better than getting out into the garden, and spending some quality time together as a family. It’s great to be able to make the most of the weather and enable the kids to have fun without worrying about accidents and injuries. If your garden is in need of some child-friendly touches, here are some simple ways to achieve a stylish, safe outdoor space.

Pool safety

If you’re lucky enough to have a pool, it’s essential to take the necessary steps to protect your children from accidents. If you’re enjoying a dip, make sure the kids are supervised at all times, and they have the relevant safety gear, like floating rings and armbands. Once you’ve finished in the pool, cover it straight away. Make sure your kids understand that they shouldn’t run around the pool, and ensure that tiles and decking are in good repair. Even the most innocuous looking trip could have devastating consequences if you’re close to the pool, and the cover isn’t on. If you don’t have a pool, apply the same safety measures to water features and ponds. Even very shallow water can pose a risk to young children. Make sure all fences and gates are safety compliant and in working order.

Tackling unwanted visitors

There’s nothing worse than being cooped up inside on a beautiful day because your garden is full of unwanted visitors. If you have a wasp nest or you’ve spotted a large number of mosquitoes buzzing around, it’s time to investigate mosquito control firms. If you have an infestation, it’s best to take action quickly. You can prevent the situation from getting worse, and you’ll be able to start enjoying your garden again sooner.

Injecting fun

Kids love being in the outdoors, so try and make your garden a place where they can let loose and have fun. Invest in some outdoor games and toys, or use your creativity to make some play zones. You could add a sunken sandpit, a trampoline or a mini adventure playground. You could turn an old shed into a vintage-style beach hut, or make a sensory path using different materials and textures.

Providing shade

On a hot day, spending hours in the sun can take its toll. It’s a good idea to incorporate some shady spots so you can cool down, and enjoy being outside without having to endure the heat. You can provide shade using retractable awnings or scatter some cushions or rugs beneath the trees. This makes a perfect chill-out area to have a drink, rest and read some books.

If you’re a parent, you probably love the summer days when you can get out into the garden, and enjoy some time together as a family. To make the most of your garden, you need to make sure that it’s a safe space. You don’t want to spend your time worrying about the kids falling or getting into trouble by the pool. These simple steps will help you create a safe outdoor haven where you can play together without any anxiety about injuries, and have loads of fun.
