Making them do this is also a good way to teach them a lesson in looking after themselves and independence. They’ll learn that not everything in life is going to be done for them.

Instead of keeping lots of things lying around the house, it’s better if you just throw them out. There are lots of things you can recycle, but some stuff needs to be taken to a tip.
