- Shower before and after you’ve been working out. There is a common misconception that exercising gives us acne. This myth isn’t true! However, the sweat can result in an outbreak. Washing before and after ensure that your skin isn’t too oily.
- Stress can make acne worse. Try meditating or taking a calming yoga class. Releasing tension and stress is good for your mental health and your skin. You might even find a new hobby!
- Chocolate can trigger an outbreak. If you are struggling with your skin during a specified period, try cutting back on chocolate.
- Organic and natural products can cause acne, too. Sometimes they might help but also, these products may end up being the culprit. Just because they are natural, doesn’t mean that they can’t be damaging to your skin condition.
- Supplements can help with acne.
- Diet may or may not be related to your acne. Try cutting things out of your diet. Keeping a journal is an excellent way to help you figure out if there is anything in particular that causes an outbreak. However, if you’re finding that nothing is working. - Toothpaste is for your teeth, not for your skin. It’s difficult when you’re struggling with acne, and you feel like there is nothing more you can do. It’s easy to fall into myths, but they are traps. Using toothpaste to treat your acne won’t help.
- Aggressive cleansing can aggravate acne. By calming with your skin and be sure to use moisturiser after you’ve had a shower or washed your hands.
- Acne can strike at any age. Teenagers aren’t the only people that have to deal with acne. Don’t worry; you’re not alone, and it’s completely normal.
- It’s never a good idea to pick or squeeze pimples or spots. It will only make things worse and spread bacteria over your face. Avoid touching your spots at all costs.
- Resist the urge to tan away the acne. There are myths out there that say the sun is good for acne, but it isn’t. Sun can make your acne worse. Protect your skin using sunscreen.
- Genetics can play a part in acne breakouts. Sometimes it isn’t something you can control, but that’s okay. Talk to a member of your family; they might be able to help.
- Sugar and dairy are not proven causes of acne. Don’t cut this out of your diet without reason. If you find your skin doesn’t react well, then you can consider it. But in the meantime, there aren’t any reasons to cut sugar and dairy out of your diet.
- There are many great natural ways to get rid of acne too. Such as following a low GI diet, adding more fruit and vegetables to your diet, drinking at least eight glasses of water a day.
