WSS Beauty: Twenty One Ways To Use Vaseline

Vaseline Jelly is one of those “must haves” you need in your beauty bag and around the house. There are literally a million and one uses for it but today will will share our Vaseline beauty secrets with you.

Eyes

Did you know Jennifer Aniston smears Vaseline Jelly around her eyes to prevent wrinkles? Aniston swears that she’s been applying Vaseline Jelly under eyes for years and it’s the reasoning behind her gorgeous wrinkle free eyes.

Beyonce uses Vaseline on her eyelashes to lengthen and define them. Just add some Vaseline to a clean mascara wand (you can buy disposable wands at Priceline) and brush through your lashes.

I use Vaseline on my eyebrows before bed as I have flakey, dry skin under them. I have no idea why but Vaseline has helped immensely. Of course, Vaseline is also fantastic for taming unruly eyebrow hairs.

Skincare

Rachel Bilson and Jennifer Lopez both use Vaseline as a makeup remover. It is especially good at removing long lasting makeup like matt lip colours and mascara. It also leaves your lips and skin  moisturised afterwards.

Before bed, I put some Vaseline on my lips to stop cracking and dryness.

Vaseline is amazing on dry areas of skin, especially elbows and knees. After a bath, moisturise all over with a good body moisturiser (such as Vaseline’s Intensive Care Deep restore lotion). Then rub Vaseline Jelly onto dry areas for added moisture and to provide a protective layer over the dry skin to stop moisture loss.

For smooth soft feet; exfoliate your feet with a pumice stone or Scholl Velvet Smooth Express Pedi (I have one of these and they are fantastic!), moisturise with a good foot or body moisturiser and smother your feet with Vaseline and pop on some socks (preferably before bed). I swear you will have gorgeous smooth skin the next day.

Blackhead remover: Take a hot shower or lean over a sink of hot water with a towel over your head, so that the pores around your blackheads can open up. Add a thick layer of Vaseline over your blackheads. After applying Vaseline, use plastic wrap to cover the area and keep two face washers dampened in hot water above the plastic. This would trap the heat inside and would soften the pores for removal of dirt.
Leave the face washers on the plastic for 5 minutes; next, wrap tissues around your forefingers and gently squeeze your blackheads to unclog the pore.  Once you are done removing the blackheads, apply a pore minimising toner (such as Neutrogena Pore Refining Toner or Olay Total Effects Pore Minimising Toner) to close the pores. Moisturise your face as usual.

Self Tanning: Use Vaseline on hands before using self tanning products so you don’t end up with tanned hands.

Before using tanning products or going to get a spray tan: Rub a small amount of Vaseline on areas you don’t want the tanning solution to build up, such as elbows, knees, ankles and wrists.

Excema and Psoriasis: You can use petroleum jelly on trouble-prone areas, to help combat the dry skin symptoms.

Shaving: Vaseline can be used instead of shaving cream. It can also be used to smooth skin after shaving.

Cut yourself? Dry the area and dab on some Vaseline. It’ll create a water tight seal over the cut which will instantly stop the bleeding.

Sunburn or burnt yourself? Use a cool gel like Aloe Gel to take the sting out of the burn and then seal the burn with Vaseline. It will stop the skin blistering and peeling.

DIY Body Scrub: Just add sea salt to Vaseline and you have a fantastic body scrub.

Hair

Get rid of those pesky flyaways after using hair dryers or hair stylers by putting a small amount of Vaseline in your hand and rub your hands together. Smooth your hands over where you have flyaways and voila! the stray hairs are in place. This also works for ponytails. It doesn’t make your hair stiff or flaky like hairspray does either.

If you are going to do a home hair dye, Vaseline is a must. Smear Vaseline around your hairline and ears so the dye doesn’t get onto your skin.

Nails

Smear some Vaseline around your nails before applying nail polish. Any excess polish will easily come off with a cotton bud.

Vaseline is fantastic for softening cuticles. Apply some Vaseline before using an orange stick and gently push back cuticles.

Prevent hangnails by regularly using Vaseline on your nails and cuticles.

As you can see there are hundreds of uses for Vaseline. It really is an essential to have in your beauty bag.
